| What is the Workforce Investment Board (the “WIB”)? | |
| The City of Los Angeles Workforce Investment Board (WIB) is composed of 51 volunteers representing the private and public sector and includes representatives from educational, labor, state and local governments, and private businesses and employers. |
| What does the WIB do? | |
| In partnership with the Mayor and City Council, the WIB provides vision, coordination and direction for the City’s workforce development activities. The Board develops policy and strategy to ensure business has access to a trained workforce and workers have access to quality jobs. |
| Where does the WIB get it’s funding and what does it use it for? | |
| Funded primarily through the federal U.S. Department of Labor Workforce Investment Act, the WIB oversees the City’s $45 million system of 18 WorkSource Centers for adults and 13 OneSource Centers for youth. These career centers offer a wide range of quality employment-related services to both job seekers and employers. The workforce delivery system is one of the largest in the nation and operates through the partnership of various organizations including, community-based non-profits, labor organizations, the Los Angeles Unified School District, the Los Angeles Community College District and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. |
| How many people do WorkSource Centers (for Adults) and OneSource Centers (for youth and young adults, ages 14-24) serve? | |
| In the 2009-2010 program year the WorkSource system served over 170,000 individuals and 1,400 businesses. Through the OneSource Center network and Hire LA’s Youth partners, the umbrella brand for the City’s year-round youth employment programs, 15,700 youth ages 14-24 were placed in summer jobs, permanent employment, internships and first-work experiences. |
| What is the Youth Council? | |
| The Youth Council is a standing committee of the WIB and has a membership of 27 members. All members of the Youth Council are private citizens and are appointed with the approval of the Mayor of Los Angeles. |
| What does the Youth Council do? | |
| The Youth Council oversees how the City’s youth programs – the OneSource Youth Opportunity Center network, the Hire LA’s Youth campaign and other programs - are operated and ensures stewardship of the federal funds used to operate these programs. The Youth Council is a champion for youth-related issues such as K-12 education, post-secondary education, career pathways, work experience, and preparation for the workplace. Past topics the Youth Council has been engaged in range from foster care to incarcerated youth. |

| How do I find out when meetings are held and where can I find the meeting agendas? | |
| Please visit the WIB Meetings Calendar to view when meetings are scheduled. You are invited to sign up for automatic notifications about when meetings will be held or when there are changes to the meeting schedule through the City of L.A.’s Early Notification System (under the Community Development Department heading). Agendas for the for meetings are posted when they become available. These items are also posted at City Hall East within conformance to the State of California Brown Act (72 hours prior to the meeting). Reports that will be distributed at the individual meetings are also posted to this site when they become available. |
